Weekly Workshop_Open Letter Draft Two

Following our peer-review workshop, there are several different changes I hope to make in the next draft of my open letter, and my peers specifically addressed: a possible shift in tone, as it is clear from reading that I may be holding back in my letter, a possible change of the word “sincerely” to conclude, add to the letter in general, and apply my ideas to other people from different backgrounds further. Personally, I wish to give a voice to and engage with a wider audience, and consider those who are different in their faith and spirituality.

  1. Alexis, thanks for this takeaway from your peer workshop feedback on Friday. When I read this draft I noted that paragraph two could open up with who you are (this may create a few new paragraphs, and so a segment) and how you see the life that God is calling you to lead. This would include some background on where you’ve come from and what you’ve overcome. With this offered it leads directly into how you see God in your life and where the Holy Spirit leads you. And this is true for everyone. We all come from somewhere and we all encounter challenges along the path of life. While this is similar for us all what is unique to each of us are the details of these challenges. Our feet do not all fit into the same size or style. We must wear the shoe that fits.

Your back story illustrates quite well the fact that you developed as your own anchor and your own rudder. What Lori Anderson suggests a Christian woman’s place and role is in the world is quite different than the place you occupy and role you fulfill in life.

I think too that your interest in working in the palliative care field is very pertinent to this letter. This is a profound calling, and this it is part and parcel of where the Holy Spirit shines light onto your path.

Also, as suggested by your peer mates, mentioning others who do not meet Anderson’s proscriptive and constrained idea of what it means to be a faithful Christian would add even more. Yet, I think your own profile can add the most depth to this rebuttal.
